Michael Ende (Garmisch-Partenkirchen, 1929 – Filderstadt, 1995) was a German writer known for his contribution to children's and fantasy literature. Son of the surrealist painter Edgar Ende, he grew up in an artistic environment that deeply influenced his work. His style is characterized by the creation of imaginative worlds that address philosophical and social themes. Ende gained international fame with novels that have been translated into more than forty languages and adapted into various media.

Among his most recognized works are Momo (1973), a critique of consumerism and time management, awarded the Youth Literature Prize in Germany in 1974, and The Neverending Story (1979), a novel that explores imagination and reality, considered a classic of youth literature. Another notable work is Jim Button and Luke the Engine Driver (1960), which has also been adapted into film and television.
