Kiki goes AWOL - Karen Weller

The sweet, irresistible smell of the fruit drifted through the air, making Kiki's mouth water. Curious and excited, she swung from branch to branch, reaching farther and farther toward the tempting scent. But in her eagerness, Kiki swung just a little too far. Her tiny hands slipped, and before she knew it, she tumbled out of the tree landing with a soft thump in the back of a truck, cushioned by a pile of ripe fruit.

The truck rumbled forward, unaware of its unexpected passenger. At first, Kiki looked around in confusion, clutching a piece of fruit as the vehicle bounced along the road. Soon the familiar smells and sounds of home began to fade. Before long, she could no longer sense Sarah nearby, and a worried feeling crept into her chest.

What had started as an exciting adventure quickly turned frightening. With a loud clang, the doors of the truck swung shut, plunging the space into darkness. Kiki's heart pounded as she realized she was all alone.

Curled up among the fruit, the little monkey wondered anxiously how she would ever find her way back to Sarah again.
