Rick Yancey, born on November 4, 1962, is an American writer known for his thriller, fantasy, and science fiction novels aimed at young audiences. He studied at Florida State University and graduated from Roosevelt University in Chicago with a Bachelor's degree in English. Before dedicating himself fully to writing, he worked as a field officer for the United States Internal Revenue Service.
Among his most notable works is the trilogy "The 5th Wave", consisting of "The 5th Wave" (2013), "The Infinite Sea" (2014), and "The Last Star" (2016), all in the genre of young adult science fiction. Another notable series is "The Monstrumologist", which includes titles such as "The Monstrumologist" (2009) and "The Curse of the Wendigo" (2010), focused on horror and fantasy. His novel "The Extraordinary Adventures of Alfred Kropp" was named "Best Book of the Year" by Publishers Weekly and nominated for the Carnegie Medal. In 2010, he received an honorable mention from the Michael L. Printz Award for "The Monstrumologist".
