Dante Alighieri was an Italian poet. His masterpiece, Divine Comedy, is one of the fundamental works of the transition from medieval to Renaissance thought. It is considered the masterpiece of Italian literature and one of the peaks of world literature. In Italian he is known as "the Supreme Poet".
