"La esfinge de los hielos" ("Le sphinx des glaces") es una novela de Jules Verne publicada en la segunda serie de la Magasin d'Éducation et de Récréation ('magazín de ilustración y recreo') desde el 1 de enero (volumen 5, número 49) hasta el 15 de diciembre de 1897 (volumen 6, número 72), y como libro el 24 de junio de ese mismo año. Trata de la busca del desaparecido Pym en el polo Sur. Es la continuación de "La narración de Arthur Gordon Pym", de Edgar Allan Poe (1838), en un rendido homenaje de uno de sus discípulos y admiradores.

Jules Verne was a prolific French author who is considered one of the fathers of science fiction, alongside the English H. G. Wells. He began by writing some theatrical plays and published several short stories and scientific articles. His ambition was to write a new type of novel, one that combined adventure with scientific facts. That dream was fulfilled with Five Weeks in a Balloon, the first of his great novels. Verne was always very interested in the scientific novelties of his time. Verne's influence goes beyond literature, as he has inspired several generations of people who have dedicated themselves to science.
