Synopsis "La femme de trente ans (in French)"

La Femme de trente ans est un roman français d'Honoré de Balzac écrit entre 1829 et 1842. L'ouvrage est classé dans les Scènes de la vie privée de La Comédie humaine. L'historique de sa publication est difficile à retracer dans la mesure où Balzac n'a cessé de retoucher ce texte, le découpant en fragments publiés de manière éparse, y rajoutant des chapitres, avant de réunir l'ensemble sous son titre définitif en 1842 dans l'édition Furne. Histoire du texte; En 1830, Balzac publie sans signature Une vue de Touraine dans La Silhouette qui sera l'essentiel de la première partie du roman, complétée en 1831 dans la Revue des deux Mondes et parue sous le titre Le Rendez-vous. Cette même année, La Caricature publie sous pseudonyme La Dernière Revue de Napoléon qui formera le début de cette première partie. La Revue de Paris publie en 1831 sous le titre les Deux rencontres le texte qui sera la cinquième partie du roman, puis le Doigt de Dieu, qui formera la première moitié de la quatrième partie. La troisième partie du roman, publiée en 1832 dans la Revue de Paris, est intitulée À trente ans. Cette même année, les quatre parties, auxquelles l'auteur a ajouté l'Expiation, sont réunies dans les Scènes de la vie privée chez Mame-Delaunay sans qu'un titre global les réunisse. C'est en 1834 que Madame Charles-Béchet publiera l'ensemble remanié, avec les noms des protagonistes modifiés, et deux ajouts importants: la Vallée du torrent et Souffrances inconnues sous le titre Même Histoire. D'autres transformations ont lieu pour la publication du texte chez Werdet en 1837, puis chez Charpentier en 1839. La Femme de trente ans ne prend son titre définitif, avec les parties reliées entre elles, que dans l'édition Furne de 1842.

Honoré de Balzac (1799-1851), novelist, playwright, literary and art critic, essayist, journalist, and French printer, is considered one of the great writers of realism. Born in Tours, in 1814 he moved to Paris, where he studied law and began working in a law firm, but his love for literature drove him to abandon his career and dedicate himself to writing. He undertook several businesses, which ended in failure and left him in debt. With The Last Chouan (1829), he achieved great success. From then on, he began a feverish activity, writing, among others, The Physiology of Marriage (1829) and The Wild Ass's Skin (1831), with which he began to consolidate his prestige. In 1834, Balzac, a tireless worker, conceived the idea of making an exhaustive portrait of French society of his time by having the same characters appear in different stories, which began to give his work a unitary sense under the title of The Human Comedy, to which belong titles such as Eugénie Grandet (1833), Father Goriot (1835), Splendors and Miseries of Courtesans (1838-1847) or Cousin Bette (1846), although of the 137 novels that were to make it up, fifty remained incomplete. An extraordinary writer, capable of deploying in his works sublime reflections and ideas, creating an interesting story with strong social criticism through exquisite prose of great poetic level and philosophical depth, Balzac is considered the founder of the modern novel.
