Salvador Fontenla (Huércal-Overa, Almería, 1946) is a brigadier general in the reserve. Assigned as a lieutenant in the Third Tercio of The Legion and in the III Parachute Banner in the Spanish Sahara, he participated in operations due to the aggressions of the Polisario Front and the Green March. Later, he was assigned as captain in the First Tercio of the Legion, and as commander in the staff of the Legion Command and in that of the Parachute Brigade. As Lieutenant Colonel, he was chief of staff of the Tactical Group Málaga, the first expedition that participated in the conflict in the Balkans. He was colonel deputy chief of the Parachute Brigade in Bosnia Herzegovina, and later chief of the General Staff of the Rapid Action Force. Promoted to Brigadier General, he commanded the Parachute Brigade until his transfer to the reserve. He also holds a Staff College Diploma and a PhD from the Complutense University of Madrid. He has also published The battlefields of the future (2007), Modern military dictionary (2006), The battles of Krasny Bor (2012) and The first African coinages in the name of Abderrahman III (2013).
