Lagar es un libro importante en el ámbito de la poesía chilena. A cincuenta años de su publicación, su densidad material no ha sido aun del todo desmadejada, ni su retórica superada por los inexorables cambios que nos acarrea el tiempo. Nunca fue, probablemente, un libro joven, y por lo mismo se ha librado de la obligación de envejecer. Gabriela Mistral (Vicuña, Elqui Valley 1889 - New York, 1957) Pseudonym of Lucila de María Godoy Alcayaga. She was a poet, diplomat, and teacher from an early age. The publication of Desolation brought Mistral international recognition and prestige, making her considered one of the greatest promises of Latin American literature and a leading figure in Chilean and Hispanic-American literature of the 20th century. In 1945, she won the Nobel Prize in Literature and, only six years later, the National Prize for Literature.
