Lyon 1886 - Lyon 1944. He taught medieval history at the University of Strasbourg and later economic history at the Sorbonne. Along with Lucien Febvre, he edited 'Annales d´Historie Èconomique et Sociale', a journal about the history of the French economy that had quite an impact at the time. His eagerness to merge economics and history is evident in some of his works such as: 'The Feudal Society' or 'Introduction to History'.
