Synopsis "Libertad: Widerstand im Untergrund (in German)"

Die junge Ärztin Katherine Barkley verlässt im Sommer 1976 England, nachdem sie sich von ihrem langjährigen Verlobten getrennt hatte. Sie nimmt im Krankenhaus von Asunción, das ihr Vater in der Hauptstadt von Paraguay leitet, eine auf ein Jahr befristete Stelle an. Durch die Zusammenarbeit mit dem jungen Kollegen, Leonardo Terno, erfährt sie von der Untergrundbewegung der Regimegegner des Diktators, die brutal von dem Polizeikommandanten Lopez bekämpft und unterdrückt wird. Obwohl sowohl ihr Vater als auch Dr. Terno sie von diesen Kreisen fernhalten wollen, wird sie durch die Liebesbeziehung zu ihrem Kollegen immer weiter hineingezogen und gerät so ebenfalls ins Visier von Lopez, der nun auch sie unter Druck setzt. Erst als der Aufstand in den Armenvierteln massiver und ein Attentat auf Lopez verübt wird, muss dieser seine Gewaltherrschaft in der Hauptstadt aufgeben.
