After studying philosophy and teaching at Jabalpur University, he began to spread his message through lectures and spiritual retreats. In the 1970s, he founded an ashram in Pune, which became a center of attraction for thousands of followers from around the world. His unconventional approach and criticisms of established religions generated both admiration and controversy.

Among his most notable works are Osho Zen Tarot: The Transcendental Game of Zen (1995), The Book of Ego: Freedom from Illusion (2001), Meditation: The First and Last Freedom (1997), and The Book of Man (2002), all within the spiritual essay genre.
