Synopsis "Off the Grid"

Be careful what you wish for... When 10 year old Rose gets caught making bad choices at school and seems to be going down the wrong path, her parents decide to move their family off the grid, away from technology and bad influences. After three years of living off the grid, she and her brother Charlie are given a day pass back to modern life. But what they thought would be a fun trip down memory lane turns into a race for survival. Some sort of disaster has left their former town a wasteland, and when they start hunting for answers, they realize that perhaps living off the grid was better than the alternative. Can they make it back home, back off the grid, back to the home they were trying to escape from? Written for middle grade readers, "Off the Grid" is just as appealing to older students as well as parents who have considered removing access to all technology and all of its evils from the hands of their children. Part family dynamics realistic fiction, part bullying story, part dystopian science fiction, "Off the Grid" digs deeply into the human condition, commitment to family, and forgiveness.
