Follow one man's enduring faith and internal stamina as he battles the emotional depressions that follow great losses . He faces discouragement and temptations to abandon standards by which he had fashioned his life. Having to deal with his wife's decision to end their marriage, Psychologist Steve Harris also has to deal either the threat of losing his clinical practice due to licensing technicalities. To escape the resulting drag on his mood, he decides to find temporary refuge on his uncle's farm. During his out-of-state trip to the farm, he is plunged into a series of events that threaten to destroy his hope of finding the peace and tranquility he was seeking. On his way through a supposedly peaceful town, a sheriff deputy issues him a traffic citation, and that deputy would later become one of his serious obstacles. Next, he finds his uncle involved in a conflict much broader than his personal issues--a conflict between protecting an important environment and developing a promising oil field. Employees of an oil development company resort to using some unscrupulous means to obtain a portion of the farm. These pose a significant danger to Uncle Orville and to Steve. Soon two women emerge to complicate Steve's life further--a young nurse and a paralegal, who are equally significant in the life and welfare of the Harris family. Being drawn to both, Steve's determination to avoid becoming emotionally involved with any woman gets tested. Entanglements and dilemmas grow due to the challenges of a controlling and jealous deputy, a legal battle with the oil company, and an automobile homicide. What doors will open and which ones will close? Aunt Mildred's advice has yet to be proven: When adversities strike, and your way is blocked, the Lord will guide you to a portal that may set you on a better course than you had before."
