Isabel Cruz de Amenábar, born in La Serena, Chile, in 1946, is a distinguished art historian specialized in the American colonial period. PhD in Philosophy and Letters with a mention in Art History from the University of Navarra, she has been a professor at the University of the Andes and an active member of the Chilean Academy of History. Her academic work has focused on the study of Hispanic American Baroque art, exploring its social, religious, and aesthetic dimensions.

Among her most significant works are Art and Society in Chile 1550–1650 (1986), The Festival: Metamorphosis of the Everyday (1995), The Garment: Transformations of a Second Skin (1996), and American Colonial Art: Joaquín Gandarillas Infante Collection (2018). This last work, which catalogs more than 600 pieces of colonial art, has been recognized for its contribution to the Chilean cultural heritage. In 1996, she received the Silvio Zavala Award for her outstanding career in the field of art history.
