Was dem Konzept des großen Austauschs zugrunde liegt, ist die Annahme - implizit in Positionen vieler linksorientierter Politiker zu finden -, dass das ›koloniale Europa‹ und insbesondere das ›post-nationalsozialistische Deutschland‹ nicht bewahrenswert seien. In selbstmörderischer Attitüde zielt diese Haltung darauf, die westliche Kultur zu schädigen - durch massenhafte, unregulierte Zuwanderung kulturell inkompatibler, vor allem muslimischer Bevölkerungsgruppen. Dies gefährdet das Rechtssystem, die Demokratie und letztlich das gesamte gesellschaftliche Gefüge. Vertretern der ›woken‹ (anti-kolonialen, anti-rassistischen, anti-westlichen) Parteien erscheint unkontrollierte Migration nicht als Problem, sondern als ›moralische Korrektur‹ historischer Schuld. Le Grand Remplacement (2011) wird von Kritikern als verschwörungstheoretisch abgelehnt. Anhänger sehen in dem Buch die treffende Diagnose einer fundamentalen kulturellen Bedrohung der westlichen Welt.
