Synopsis "Safe Zone. A Novel of Intimate Intrigue"

Safe Zone, was begun at the height of the wars in the Balkans, sparked by stories of genocide centered around the fall of the U. N. Safe Area at Srebrenica. From CIA Headquarters in Langley, Virginia to the American fleet in the Adriatic Sea, extrapolations of historical events are woven into the lives of a cast of characters to create a tapestry of intimate intrigue and mystery. Moving from London to Paris and on to Zagreb, Croatia, and finally Bosnia, we see the story unfold, interspersed with slices of life in New York, Sarajevo, Germany's Black Forest, and all points in-between.
Although based on actual events that took place during this same time frame, some of which are mentioned here in these pages, this book is purely a work of the imagination, not facts. It began with a deep sense of compassion for those who were dying and suffering in the Bosnian War and the Balkan wars in general. I have also made numerous references to religion, especially Islam and Christianity. In no way do I mean any disrespect. I hold Islam and Muslims, in general, in high esteem. I also have the deepest regard for Christians, be they Western or Eastern. I also have a deep respect for the people of Serbia and Serbs as an ethnic group. There was terrible suffering on all sides of this war, and I mean in no way to minimize or trivialize that suffering. I only wish in some way I could have worked to alleviate some of the pain so many experienced and may continue to experience.
