Synopsis "Shroudfall"

For twelve years, the Shroud has been unbeatable. Their warships come wrapped in the Pall - a living grey mist that doesn't destroy Earth's fighters so much as consume them, swallowing hull and pilot alike without leaving so much as a distress signal behind. Nobody has ever recovered a piece of it intact. Nobody has ever needed to ask why.Maya Voss isn't a soldier. She's a scavenger, a woman who stopped watching the war years ago because watching it was the only way she knew how to survive it. But when she pulls an impossible fragment of the Pall from a dead pilot's wreckage - a fragment that reacts to her, that shouldn't exist, that starts answering questions nobody at Fleet Intelligence has been willing to ask in over a decade - she's dragged into a classified research cell chasing a truth that traces back through a hundred and thirty-one years of buried history to a single, terrible mistake. The Pall doesn't destroy indiscriminately. It's choosing. And the closer Maya gets to understanding why, the clearer it becomes that Earth's entire war has been built on a lie - one that Fleet Intelligence has spent twelve years protecting, at a cost nobody outside a sealed vault was ever allowed to count. With her brother flying missions she isn't allowed to ask about and a station full of people running out of time, Maya has one chance to turn a fragment of alien mist into the answer that finally lets humanity fight back - before the truth she's uncovering costs more than the war already has.Shroudfall is a character-driven military science fiction novel about the cost of looking away, and the harder cost of finally looking back - Book One of The Shroud War.
