One poem titled, Birth of a Wild Soul describes how her Senegalese father met her mother in the city Philadelphia. She references the city as a place of jazz; filled with murals and an ongoing hustle. And other poems like Unrecovering from Vices, A Recall on love; detail her struggles with womanhood. A Wild Thang & a poem called Runnin', give light to her self-discovery and inner optimism. More optimism is displayed in From a Seed, a surprising twist as she deals with pregnancy and single motherhood. Yet poems like Rituals of the Majestic and Taxes and Debts show the artist at her wits end. And beautifully enough the poetry in Senegalese Twist, Waist Beads and Other Thangs show the day to day of the poet in a Senegalese household while being a single mother in her twenties living with her married siblings in her father's busy home. On the last page the reader is left with a since of wanting more. As you ask yourself, what comes next? But the answer is obvious; Yasin is writing more poems and sharing her work as an artist and performer. The spoken work of her book is available on SoundCloud; poems in which she has recorded over Hip-hop and Jazz instrumentals. Unlike the many poetry mixtapes we've heard before this feels fresh, new and soulful. Her collection so far shows true artistry, freshness and creativity from Miss Yasin Toure'.
