Swami Ramdas (1884-1963) spielte im spirituellen Bereich im Indien des 20. Jahrhunderts eine bedeutende Rolle. Er widmete sein Leben der Hingabe an seine Gottheit Rama, deren Namen er ständig wiederholte (Japa), pilgerte als Wandermönch durch ganz Indien und errichtete schlie lich den Anandashram in Kasaragod und danach in Kanhangad in Kerala. Eine Weltreise führte ihn in den 50er Jahren auch nach Deutschland. Swami Ramdas Liebe zu allen Lebewesen erinnert an den christlichen Heiligen Franz von Assisi. Seine Botschaft war die der universellen Liebe und des Dienstes, da Gott sich in allen Lebewesen manifestiert. Er schätzte alle Religionen gleicherma en und betonte ihre gemeinsame Essenz.
