That Time with the Dead Birds - James Alvarez

Things are about to get unscrewed...

Owen Gomez feels stuck. Stuck in a mundane teaching job. Stuck in the past. And still hopelessly in love with his ex-wife, Anna-Marie Choi.

But when he summons a mysterious portal that can only be seen through a pair of time-traveling sunglasses, things will get unstuck real fast.

Owen and Anna-Marie soon find themselves tumbling through alternate timelines, where every choice births a new reality and every new reality threatens to pull them further apart. They have become two loose screws, ripped from the threads of reason. What was once an existence, securely tightened in place, has become a cosmic slush of radical improbabilities.

Things get even more complicated when Owen is offered a path to wealth, status, and power beyond anything he ever imagined. Slipping down a seductive path, the two loose screws will face their greatest challenge yet: acknowledging their complicated adult relationship. As they journey through bizarre worlds and paradoxical futures, they’ll be forced to confront the lingering wounds of their failed marriage and the question of whether love can survive the weight of lopsided time.

Along the way, they will encounter robotic cat men, an evil queen, and a storm of dead birds. They’ll bend time, break rules, and test the limits of their fragile relationship while also testing the limits of reality itself.

Will they survive the consequences of reckless time travel? Will they kiss? Will they fight? Will they kiss and fight? Only time will tell.
