Synopsis "The art of war"

"1. Sun Tzu said: The art of war is of vital importance to the State.
2. It is a matter of life and death, a road either to safety or to ruin. Hence it is a subject of inquiry which can on no account be neglected..."

he Art of War is an ancient Chinese military treatise dating from the 5th century BC. Attributed to the ancient Chinese military strategist Sun Tzu , the text is composed of 13 chapters, each of which is devoted to one aspect of warfare. It is commonly thought of as a definitive work on military strategy and tactics. It was placed at the head of China's Seven Military Classics upon the collection's creation in 1080 by Emperor Shenzong of Song, and has long been the most influential strategy text in East Asia.It has had an influence on Eastern and Western military thinking, business tactics, legal strategy and beyond.

The book was first translated into the French language in 1772 by French Jesuit Jean Joseph Marie Amiot and a partial translation into English was attempted by British officer Everard Ferguson Calthrop in 1905.

Sun Tzu (in simplified Chinese: 孙子, in traditional Chinese: 孫子, in pinyin: Sūnzǐ) was a general, military strategist, and philosopher from ancient China. The name by which we know him is actually an honorary title meaning "Master Sun". His birth name was Sun Wu and outside his family, he was known by his courtesy name Changqing.

Traditionally, he is considered the author of The Art of War, an influential treatise on military strategy. Sun Tzu has had a significant impact on Chinese and Asian history and culture, both for writing The Art of War and for being a legendary historical figure.
