Synopsis "The Fault Beneath"

A machine that is always right just told him it would cost 11,402 lives.Eleven years ago, Jordan Harper built the system that watches over the Peveto petrochemical refinery - and then a data breach ended his career and drove him to a solitary cabin on the Texas marsh. He has not spoken to the plant since. At 4:03 one November morning, it speaks to him: an escalation notice from the AI he designed, carrying a number too precise to be a bluff. Shut it down, as a federal directive now demands, and the ground beneath the plant will take the town with it.To find out whether the Watcher is a guardian or a liar, Jordan has to go back to the life that ruined him - past the investigator sent to pull the plug, the plant manager who buried the warning, and the thing dissolving in the dark forty meters down. The clock is already running. The only question left is who to believe. The Fault Beneath is a standalone techno-thriller for readers of Daniel Suarez, Blake Crouch, and Marc Elsberg - a countdown story about infrastructure, accountability, and the terrible usefulness of a machine you cannot afford to trust or to switch off.
