Synopsis "The Gaucho Martin Fierro (in Spanish)"

To understand Martín Fierro´s epic deeds we have to recognize in him the Río de la Plata gaucho´s idiosincrasy, a blend between the Spanish conqueror and the aborigen. José Hernández could brilliantly interpret the popular feelings through Fierro´s misfortunes, with a genuine language from the countryside. His commitment shows how the countryman thinks and suffers when facing the injustice of power, singing hís sorrows which everybody knows but no one dares to denounce. He does it by singing to the gauchos´s independence and stoicism and courage, values which had never been taken into account before.'
