Émile Erckmann (nombre completo Émile Erckmann), nacido en 1822 en Phalsbourg, fue un novelista francés conocido por su colaboración literaria con Alexandre Chatrian bajo la firma conjunta Erckmann-Chatrian. Juntos se convirtieron en referentes del relato fantástico y del folclore alsaciano-lorenés, cultivando un estilo que mezcla misterio, superstición rural y comentarios sociales. La dupla destacó en pleno siglo XIX por su capacidad para construir atmósferas inquietantes sin recurrir al exceso, apoyándose en el detalle realista y en personajes profundamente humanos.

Dentro de su obra conjunta figura “Hugues-le-Loup”, publicado originalmente en francés y traducido al español como Hugo el lobo y otros relatos de terror, texto cuyo estilo y temática coinciden con la estética sombría característica del dúo.
