After many years of rescuing elderly pugs. In 2008 we were asked to take in a little disabled Pug puppy who we named Horton. Horton changed our lives and touched the hearts of everyone who ever met him. The Joy of Horton is a celebration of a life well lived by a little pug who was small in stature but had the true spirit of a lion dwelling within him. Horton was cheeky and fearless and funny and wonderful. Chapter after chapter tells of the adventures he got up to living on a farm in the company of his seven elderly brothers and sisters. Horton stalked our sheep and got kissed by our Clydesdale, he took a huge amount of joy in every single day he was given. Horton shared our life for three glorious years before we lost him. This book is a story of strength and determination. Horton wasn't a quitter; he faced things head on and got on with living the best life he could regardless of the body he had born into. Horton got pushed around our paddocks in a beautiful blue and white pram and called out to the sheep and horses as he went along, trying to encourage them to come over and play with him. On the ground he was bold and fearless and would shuffle up to our Clydesdale like he wasn't even aware of the differences in sizes. It was the same with our flock of sheep. Horton would peep through the fence watching the livestock grazing and again shouting out to them to come closer. And as for the old pugs in the house, well they took on a new lease of life, some mothered him, some played with him and some jumped up on the couch to have a break from him.
