Synopsis "The Summer Hikaru Died, Vol. 4"

Two boys grew up together in a certain village--Yoshiki and Hikaru. One day, Yoshiki became sure that Hikaru was no longer himself. He resolved to accept the new "Hikaru," whatever happened to his friend. But now he's decided to research the history of "Nounuki-sama" and Kubitachi to understand what this creature truly is. The situation evolves unpredictably, outside the boys' control. Who will make the next move, and what will they find?

Mokumokuren is a Japanese mangaka who has gained recognition for his innovative approach to the horror and slice of life genres. His most notable work is The Summer Hikaru Died (Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu), which began publication in August 2021 in Kadokawa Shoten's digital magazine Young Ace Up. The series has been compiled into six volumes and has been translated into Spanish by Milky Way Ediciones. Additionally, it has an anime adaptation produced by CygamesPictures.

Initially, Mokumokuren conceived the story while preparing for university entrance exams, sharing his illustrations on Twitter, which caught the attention of publishers. His narrative style is characterized by combining elements of psychological horror with deep emotional relationships, avoiding genre clichés. In 2022, The Summer Hikaru Died received the Global Special Award at the Next Manga Awards (traditional Chinese edition) and was voted the best manga for male readers in the 2023 Kono Manga ga Sugoi! guide.
