Synopsis "Thule de Gustav Moritz Redslob(Vero Verlag) (in German)"

Im 4. Jahrhundert v. Chr. reiste der Händler und Geograph Pytheas als erster Grieche bis nach Britannien und noch sechs Tagesreisen weiter nach Norden bis zu der Insel Thule im Eismeer. Er beschreibt, dass aus dem Ort Abalon in der Nähe Bernstein stammt. Leider ist uns der originale Bericht des Pytheas nicht erhalten, sondern nur Exzerpte späterer antiker Autoren. Redslob untersucht anhand der literarischen Quellen, der Geographie und auch anhand sprachwissenschaftlicher Interpretation der Ortsnamen die Frage, wo die Handelswege nach Nordeuropa verliefen, wo überall Bernstein zu finden war und welches also das von Tacitus genannte Bernstein sammelnde Volk der Aestyrer sei, wo Pytheas Reiserouten verliefen und wo sich wohl die Insel Thule befunden hat. Qualitativ hochwertiger Nachdruck der Originalausgabe aus dem Jahr 1855.
