Tafelsilber wird seit Jahrhunderten mit Macht, Tradition und Zeremonie verbunden. Zu Beginn des 19. Jahrhunderts entwickelte sich verstrkt seine Vormachtstellung zur Reprsentation des Staates. Dynamische Vernderungen in Gesellschaft, Technik und Kommunikation kennzeichnen den Zeitraum von 1797, dem Entstehungsjahr des Empire in Paris, und 1848, dem Jahr der brgerlich-revolutionren Erhebungen in Europa. In dieser Zeit nahmen drei ostmitteleuropische Hauptproduktionszentren des Tafelsilbers - Berlin, Warschau und Wien - an der Mobilitt und der Verbreitung von Kulturgtern und somit am Warenaustausch des von Napoleon in Auftrag gegebenen Empire-Stils teil.Paris war dabei Zentrum. Berlin, Warschau und Wien an der Peripherie nahmen bestimmte Impulse des Empire-Stils auf. Die daraus resultierenden transkulturellen Vernetzungen und Verflechtungen fhrten zu neuen Hybridobjekten. So bildeten sich Identitten, die vielfltigen und internationalen Einflssen unterlagen.
