Synopsis "Two Blossoms on a Single Stem: A Story of Immigration and Sisterhood"

Two Blossoms on a Single Stem is a fictional immigration story beginning in Ireland, 1909, and ending in Stamford, Connecticut, 1933. The tale is loosely based upon the journey of the author's grandmother and grandaunt. While the story deals with the typical American experience of new life, hard work, and hope, it is fundamentally about the power of sisterhood. Evelyn and Emily Weir, at the ages of eleven and sixteen were sent alone to America, with the promise that the rest of the family would soon follow. Months and years passed as the girls toiled under the cold and cruel eye of their wealthy American aunt. Intermittent letters from Northern Ireland described hardships and situations making a reunion in America seemingly impossible. Would the sisters ever see their family again? Only one thing was certain: the bond of sisterhood between Evelyn and Emily was irrevocable.
