Victorino de la Plaza nació en la provincia de Salta en 1840, en un hogar humilde, y, merced a su esfuerzo, a su capacidad intelectual y a sus grandes méritos, llegó a ser presidente de la Nación. Integró el grupo de los más representativos personajes de la brillante Generación del 80 . Se desempeñó con notable eficacia como ministro en distintas carteras y bajo distintos mandatos presidenciales. Cuando estalló la Gran Guerra de 1914, como presidente, sostuvo con firmeza la neutralidad de la Argentina que luego fue una política internacional continuada por Hipólito Yrigoyen. Este libro forma parte de la colección Salta en la historia política y cultural de la Argentina , que responde a un propósito cultural y educativo de gran proyección: presentar un conjunto de obras breves que destacan el accionar de una serie de personalidades de la Provincia que realizaron un aporte significativo a la conformación del pensamiento y la historia política, social y cultural de nuestro país.
