Sambia gehört zu den afrikanischen Ländern südlich der Sahara, die durch ihr Privatisierungsprogramm erfolgreich ausländische Direktinvestitionen (FDI) anlocken. Die Auswirkungen ausländischer Direktinvestitionen im Bergbausektor wurden bisher nicht im Hinblick auf die erwarteten ökologischen, sozialen und wirtschaftlichen Vorteile für bestimmte Personengruppen und die Wirtschaft als Ganzes gemessen. Das Hauptziel dieser Dissertation ist es, zwei relevante Forschungsfragen zu beantworten: Erstens: Sind Sambias derzeitige ausländische Direktinvestitionen im Bergbausektor ökonomisch und ökologisch schlechter als früher, als sie noch in staatlicher Hand waren? Zweitens: Wie vorteilhaft sind ausländische Direktinvestitionen für die Sambier? Wer ist der Hauptnutznie er?
