Ana Clavel
Ana Clavel Mexico City, 1961. Master in Latin American Literature from UNAM. She is the author of the short story books Out of Scene (1984), Love Ties (1992), Trembling Paradises (Alfaguara, 2002), the collected stories volume Love and Other Suicides (2012) and the book of microfictions Heartedness (2014). National Short Story Award Gilberto Owen 1991. Silver Medal 2004 from the Société Académique Arts-Sciences-Lettres of France. Her novels The Desires and Their Shadow (Alfaguara, 2000) and Shipwrecked Body (Alfaguara, 2005) have been translated into English, and The Shadow Drawer (Alfaguara, 2009), into French. The Violets are Flowers of Desire (Alfaguara, 2007, translated into French and Arabic) won the Juan Rulfo Short Novel Award 2005 from Radio France Internationale. The Nymphs Sometimes Smile (Alfaguara, 2013, translated into French) won the Ibero-American Novel Award Elena Poniatowska. She has published the volume In the Shadow of Blooming Desires. Essays on the Metamorphic Force of Desire (2008) and the essay book Lolita Territory (Alfaguara, 2017). Her most recent novel is Brief Treatise of the Heart (Alfaguara, 2019).
