Antonio Buero Vallejo
Antonio Buero Vallejo (1916-2000) was a Spanish playwright, considered one of the most important figures in 20th century Spanish theater. His work falls within the realms of realistic and symbolist theater, with a strong social and psychological content. He debuted with Historia de una escalera (1949), which earned him the Lope de Vega Award and marked the beginning of his successful career. Other notable works include El tragaluz (1967), En la ardiente oscuridad (1950), and La Fundación (1974)
Throughout his career, Buero Vallejo tackled themes such as oppression, historical memory, and the fight for freedom. In 1986, he received the Cervantes Prize in recognition of his career. His legacy continues in contemporary theater.
