Brigitte Baptiste-Ballera
Brigitte Baptiste Ballera (Bogotá, 1963) is a Colombian biologist, ecologist, and academic, known for her innovative approach to biodiversity, sustainability, and gender diversity. She studied Biology at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and earned a master's degree in Tropical Conservation and Development at the University of Florida. For nearly a decade, she led the Alexander von Humboldt Biological Resources Research Institute, and since 2019 has been the rector of EAN University, being the first trans woman to lead a university in Colombia.
In 2025, she published Transecology: a pataphysical guide to inhabiting the world's transformations, a work that combines essays on queer ecology, spirituality, feminism, and indigenous thought. Baptiste has been internationally recognized, including her inclusion in the BBC 100 Women list in 2024. Her work has influenced environmental policy and debates on diversity in Latin America.
