José Mujica
José Alberto Mujica Cordano, known as "Pepe Mujica", was born on May 20, 1935 in Montevideo, Uruguay. He was a guerrilla militant in the 60s and 70s, joining the National Liberation Movement - Tupamaros, a left-wing group that fought against the military dictatorship. He was arrested in 1972 and spent more than 10 years in prison, under severe conditions. After the restoration of democracy in 1985, Mujica was released and turned to politics, becoming one of the leaders of the Broad Front.

He served as president of Uruguay from 2010 to 2015, noted for his austere style and rejection of materialism. During his term, he promoted progressive laws such as the legalization of same-sex marriage, the legalization of marijuana, and the decriminalization of abortion. He donated 90% of his presidential salary to charity and lived simply on his farm.

Mujica is admired for his political ethics, his fight for social justice, and his focus on sustainability and equality. His figure remains a reference of humility and coherence in global politics.
