St Maria Faustina Kowalska
Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska, born as Helena Kowalska on August 25, 1905 in Głogowiec, Poland, was a Polish Catholic nun and mystic, known as the "Apostle of the Divine Mercy". Daughter of a peasant family, she received limited education, attending school for only three years. From an early age, she felt a deep call to religious life, but due to her family's poverty, she was unable to enter the convent until she was 20. In 1925, she joined the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy in Warsaw, where she took the religious name Sister Maria Faustina
During her religious life, she worked in various houses of the congregation in Krakow, Płock, and Vilnius, serving as a cook, gardener, and gatekeeper. Despite her seemingly simple life, she experienced profound mystical experiences and visions of Jesus Christ, who revealed to her the message of the Divine Mercy. Following the instructions of her confessor, Blessed Michał Sopoćko, she wrote her experiences in a spiritual diary, known as "Diary: Divine Mercy in My Soul"
Saint Faustina died on October 5, 1938 at the age of 33. She was beatified by Pope John Paul II on April 18, 1993 and canonized on April 30, 2000, also by the same Pope. Her legacy continues through the devotion to the Divine Mercy, especially celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter
