Vicki Hutton
Vicki Hutton is an Australian scholar and author specializing in applied psychology and studies on human-animal relationships. Her career began in the field of mental health and crisis counseling, where she worked with vulnerable communities. Later, she moved to the educational and research sector, earning a PhD in Applied Psychology. Since 2013, she has been part of the Australian College of Applied Professions (ACAP) in Melbourne, where she is currently the chair of the Counseling discipline and coordinator of the Graduate Diploma in Counseling
Among her most notable works are Multicultural Responsiveness in Counselling and Psychology (2019), co-edited with Susan Sisko; A Reason to Live: HIV and Animal Companions (2019); and Recognising and Responding to Animal Emotion in a Shared World (2023). Her books, within the genres of psychology and studies on human-animal interaction, address topics such as cultural sensitivity in counseling, the emotional impact of animals on human life, and the recognition of emotions in animals.
