Synopsis "Boca Locos"

Boca Juniors has never been defined by trophies alone.Across generations, La Bombonera has embraced footballers who offered something harder to measure: courage, imagination, defiance, humour, mischief and, occasionally, outright madness. Some were brilliant champions. Others became unforgettable because of a tackle, a gesture, a confrontation or the sheer force of personality they brought to the blue and gold.Boca Locos: Mavericks, Madmen and Magicians of La Bombonera tells the stories of eleven of the club's great cult figures. From Hugo Gatti, the goalkeeper who treated convention as an inconvenience, and Blas Giunta, whose relentless commitment made him a terrace hero, to Ángel Clemente Rojas, Enrique Hrabina, Sergio "Manteca" Martínez, Guillermo Barros Schelotto and Julio Musimessi, these are footballers whose connection with Boca went far beyond statistics.Drawing on historical records, contemporary reporting and the players' own recollections, Rob Smith explores the personalities, triumphs, excesses and extraordinary moments that made these men part of Boca folklore. This is not a book about the eleven greatest players ever to wear the shirt. It is about something more personal: the players Boca supporters chose to make their own.
