Günther Haase, Dr. jur., Rechtsanwalt in Hamburg, Jahrgang 1929, begann seine Nachforschungen zum Schicksal und Verbleib von Kunstwerken während und nach dem 2. Weltkrieg im Jahre 1987. Seitdem hat er in Bibliotheken, Archiven, Museen in den USA und in Europa umfangreiches, auch bisher unveröffentlichtes Material zusammengetragen. Die 1. Auflage dieses Titels erschien bereits 1991 und war damals eine der ersten Dokumentationen in dieser Form. Die hiermit vorgelegte 2. Auflage aktualisiert die Entwicklung und die seitdem bekannt gewordenen Geschehnisse. Eine kurze Darlegung der Geschichte der Behandlung von Kunstgütern im Kriege führt zum aktuellen Thema.
