Joe Hill, cuyo nombre real es Joseph Hillström King, nació el 4 de junio de 1972 en Bangor, Maine (Estados Unidos). Es hijo de los también autores Stephen King y Tabitha King, aunque adoptó un seudónimo para forjar su propia identidad literaria. Su obra se enmarca principalmente en el género del terror, la fantasía oscura y la ciencia ficción.

Hill debutó con la colección de cuentos 20th Century Ghosts en 2005, que le valió diversos premios. Su primera novela, Heart‑Shaped Box (2007), alcanzó el éxito y lo catapultó a la lista de los más vendidos.
