Macron l'a également suivi. MM. Mourad et Macron se connaissaient toutefois depuis plus longtemps: ils s'étaient rencontrés par des amis communs il y a plus de dix ans. L'histoire de Bernard Mourad avec Patrick Drahi avait, elle, commencé en 2004. À l'époque, Drahi n'était pas encore très connu. Il souhaitait racheter Noos pour constituer un groupe hexagonal spécialisé dans le câble. Bernard Mourad et Dexter Goei, actuel PDG d'Altice (la holding luxembourgeoise du milliardaire), mais à l'époque lui aussi banquier chez Morgan Stanley, l'ont alors conseillé. Les trois hommes ne se sont plus quittés, jusqu'à aujourd'hui, M. Mourad ayant décidé de délaisser le cuivre des télécoms pour les paillettes de la politique avec Macron...
