The first volume runs from Homer through the Middle Ages; the second from the Renaissance through the age of Napoleon; and the third from 1825 to the present. When appropriate, the entire text of such items as a charter from a medieval guild, the English bill of Rights, documents related to the French Revolution, the World Wars, and the Russian Revolution will be reprinted. Now in paperback, Volume II covers the fourteenth century, the Renaissance, the Reformation, the scientific revolution, the Enlightenment, the Age of Power, enlightened despotism, the French Revolution, and Napoleon.
