Synopsis "Sarah's Heart"

Sarah, her husband, and her children may have escaped the Holocaust in Europe, but they still carry the scars inflicted by the Nazi regime. Sarah, a caring wife and mother, is plagued by nightmares and the guilt of surviving when so many of her relatives perished. Even in her new home of Chicago, Illinois, she feels anxious and uneasy.Then a chance encounter with two women takes her life in an unexpected direction. Rose and Maria both understand how Sarah feels. As a black woman, Rose has been subjected to the ugly racism of America all her life. As a Mexican immigrant, Maria understands what it's like to be a stranger in a strange country. All three women have felt the sting of prejudice and bigotry, and they are instantly drawn to one another.The women band together and form an unconventional family with all their children. As they face the many challenges and obstacles lurking in mid-twentieth-century America, each will learn from the others. It is with the gentle support and love of her new friends that Sarah will finally confront the trauma of her past, make peace with her guilt, and begin to heal.
