Alex Borucki
Alex Borucki is a Uruguayan historian and journalist specialized in social history, with a particular focus on slavery and Afro-descendant communities in the Río de la Plata. He currently works as a journalist at the newspaper la diaria, where he has published various articles on social and cultural topics

In the academic field, Borucki has made significant contributions to the study of slavery in the region. His work From Shipmates to Comrades in Arms: Black Identities in the Río de la Plata, 1760-1860 (2017) analyzes how Africans and their descendants in Montevideo and Buenos Aires created and recreated their social identities through shared experiences, from their experiences in Africa to their organization in post-emancipation times

Additionally, Borucki has participated in academic activities and conferences, such as the discussion organized by the Afro-Latin American Studies Group (GEALA) of the Ravignani Institute, where he presented his research on the slave trade to the Río de la Plata between 1585 and 1835

His work has been fundamental in making visible the history of Afro-descendant communities in the Río de la Plata and their impact on the construction of the social and political identity of the region
